Man Achieves Guinness World Record as Oldest First-Time Grandfather at 91

Published April 16, 2026

Charles Smith from Australia has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest individual to become a grandfather for the first time, reaching the age of 91 years and 209 days. This significant milestone was marked by the birth of his granddaughter Isla, born to his son Ashley and daughter-in-law Hanna.

Smith became a father at the age of 55 when Ashley was born, making his transition into grandfatherhood a long-anticipated event.

"All I can say is I picked her up and didn't want to give her back. Except for the nappy changes," Smith shared with Guinness World Records.

Ashley Smith commended his father’s extraordinary independence and active way of living. He attributes his dad’s longevity and zest for life to a positive mindset, close friendships, and a fondness for tea.

The record-holder enjoys traveling across Australia in his camper van and spending time boating around Moreton Bay.
