India Explores Deploying Crocodiles and Snakes as Border Security Along Bangladesh Frontier

India's Border Security Force (BSF) is investigating a novel strategy to secure its border with Bangladesh by utilizing crocodiles and snakes in riverine areas. This initiative focuses on roughly 110 miles of marshland where conventional fencing is ineffective due to frequent flooding and the dynamic nature of water channels. In March, officials requested feasibility reports from field units regarding this approach.

The concept of a "biological barrier" is intended to close security vulnerabilities along a 530-mile stretch of the border that remains unfenced, accounting for 20% of India's entire boundary length.

However, wildlife specialists have expressed concerns about potential ecological disturbances and the dangers posed to nearby communities by introducing predatory animals into open water systems.

This proposal aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intensified immigration enforcement efforts and is designed to complement existing border surveillance technologies such as drones and infrared cameras.
