Coachella Weekend Recap: Justin Bieber’s Unusual Set, Sabrina Carpenter’s Cultural Misstep, Anyma’s Performance Cancelled

Justin Bieber took the main stage at Coachella on Saturday night, delivering a 34-song concert that featured minimal production and some unconventional moments, including performing alongside old YouTube clips of himself. His setlist leaned heavily on songs from his 2025 albums Swag and Swag II, with his well-known hit "Baby" not played until 50 minutes into the show. Throughout the performance, Bieber remained focused on his laptop screen, explaining that he was interacting with live online chat feedback. Memorable moments included guest appearances by Kid Laroi and Tems, as well as a lengthy segment where Bieber scrolled through viral YouTube videos such as "Deez Nutz" and "Double Rainbow."

Sabrina Carpenter apologized after confusing a Zaghrouta—a traditional Arabic celebratory chant—with yodeling during her Friday night headlining set at Coachella. While performing, an audience member shouted the chant, prompting Carpenter to say, "I think I heard someone yodel. Is that what you're doing? I don't like it." When the attendee clarified, "It's my culture," Carpenter responded, "That's your culture, is yodeling?" Upon learning it was a "call of celebration," she replied, "Is this Burning Man? What's going on? This is weird." The exchange sparked criticism on social media, with many calling her remarks insensitive and Islamophobic. Carpenter issued an apology on X the following day, stating, "my apologies i didn't see this person with my eyes and couldn't hear clearly. my reaction was pure confusion, sarcasm and not ill intended. could have handled it better! now i know what a Zaghrouta is!"

Anyma’s late-night Coachella performance was cancelled on Friday due to high wind conditions that compromised his stage setup. The EDM artist was slated to perform at midnight on the main stage, following Sabrina Carpenter’s headlining act. Festival organizers announced the cancellation at approximately 12:15 a.m., citing safety concerns. "Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma's stage build, he is unable to perform," organizers and Anyma shared on social media. "Coachella & Anyma have made this decision together with your safety as the priority." Anyma expressed regret to fans, saying, "We've done everything in our control to build the show I've worked an entire year on. Safety always comes first."
